Paradise Bay is located midway along the west coast of the Antarctic peninsula. The natural harbor has spectacular scenery with peaks of up to 1500 m in height and glaciers descending into the sea. The glaciers in Skontrop cove located deep inside the bay, are massive and calving often occurs. Blue-eyed shags, Cape petrels and Antarctic terns nest on the cliffs sharing the rocky environment with forests of mosses and lichens. The bay is also home to the Argentine summer station Almirante Brown, established in 1951. Neko Harbor lies on the eastern shore of the Andvord Bay, approximately 7 miles south of beautiful Errera Channel. It was discovered by Gerlache during his Belgian Antarctic expedition (1897-99). It is named for the floating whale factory ship Neko which often used this bay in 1911,12, 23 and 24. It is home to Gentoo colonies. Weddell and crabeater seals may also be see hauled out on cobblestone beaches. Several active glacier fronts surround the harbor.
