Hi-5 was an exciting and innovative three day project with 60 year 7 pupils at Bryngwyn School, Llanelli. The project focused on the Arts and Media to develop a music video on overarching theme of 'Image and Society'. DAY 1 -- The pupils worked with 'Mr Phormula' (Ed Holden) in an energetic workshop to discover the current issues teenagers encounter in regards to representation and self to encompass the main theme. Working with the University's Student Ambassadors, the group developed their ideas and worked collaboratively to write, perform and record their Rap! DAY 2 -- The task for the day was to create a public image for the Rap by producing a Music Video using story boards, simple camera techniques and a lot of imagination. This fun workshop lead by Jon Pugh from the School of Performing Arts, allowed the pupils to shoot footage that reflected the creative ideas locked up in the Rap crafted in the previous workshop. DAY 3 -- Following an iPad editing master class with Brett Aggersberg from the School of Film and Media, the final part of the process was to edit the footage together to create their masterpieces! The pupils also had the opportunity to work with staff from the University's Art and Design department to design and create their individual artwork for the DVD. The Hi-5 project has been a resounding success. It has given the pupils an opportunity to produce fantastic work and develop new skills, and hopefully inspire them to become the next generation of industry filmmakers!
