Princess Unlucky is a rarity among Ottawa indie musicians: a classically trained harpist who sets her mind to telling stories that touch the subliminal space between the ethereal and the mundane. With her electric harp, Merlin, she sings tunes saccharine and manic with the aid of her deft fingers and a pedalboard. Sarah (as her friends know her) can often be found flitting between the town’s open mics, working in the maple syrup bush, or locked in her room writing away for hours to create pieces that combine the fineries of music theory with visceral, sometimes dreamy, emotional intensity. A one-of-a-kind performer, she boasts a flexible repertoire between haunting vocals, neo-folk lamentations, and even punchy punk rock.
