You can go to Ninh Binh on a day trip but I highly suggest spending a few days there to enjoy the lush green landscapes and tour the countryside. My favorite things to see in Ninh Binh are: 1. Trang An River and Grottoes by boat 2. Bai Dinh Pagoda 3. Lying Dragon Mountain at the Hang Mua Caves 4. Touring the countryside by scooter and stopping at -Bich Dong Pagoda -Hoa Lu Ancient City 5.
