Double Contact Staff Tutorial - THE BEST TRICK EVER!!! Filmed for Fire Drums http://www.firedrums.org/ This is a tutorial on how to do the best double contact staff on staff (SOSC) move in existence. I first learned the trick from the Australian fire dancer Matt Bray at Pacific Fire Gathering on the Oregon coast in 2010. it consists of a halo roll at the same time as a neck wrap. Put the staff on the side you are starting from on top; so if you are going from the right to the left, start with your right hand on top and finish with your left hand on top. Try and keep constant contact between the two staffs placed together in the middle like a cross or + Use the bottom staff to power the move: when the top staff starts the halo, throw the bottom staff around in a neck wrap and have faith that it will work out. This is possibly the hardest part, but try it a few times and don't be afraid to mess up. Try, try again. It helps to look in the direction you are starting: so if you are going from the right to the left first look right, and then turn your head to the left in the direction the staffs are going. This opens up a pathway across your shoulders and makes the trick smoother. It helps if you keep your body loose and try to dance with the staff instead of standing like a statue. If you are going from the right to the left turn with the staffs in a counter clockwise motion after they cross your shoulders, if going from left to right turn clockwise.
