L’abbaye cistercienne de Boschaud doit son nom à la configuration topographique du lieu : Bosco Cavo signifie en latin « bois creux » ou « vallon boisé ». Fondée au XIIe siècle, en partie détruite au cours des guerres de Religion, l’abbaye associe les grands principes cisterciens à un style typique du Périgord, la nef unique de l’église étant voûtée d’une file de coupoles sur pendentifs. English translation The Cistercian abbey of Boschaud owes its name to the topography of the site: Bosco Cavo means "hollow wood" or "wooded valley" in Latin. Founded in the 12th century and partially destroyed during the Wars of Religion, the abbey combines the core principles of Cistercianism with a style typical of the Périgord region, the single nave of the church being vaulted with a series of domes on pendentives. Rediscovered in the 19th century, the remains of the convent buildings are imbued with a profound spirituality. Interpretive panels are available on site.
