The placement of short and ultra-short implants may represent a valid alternative therapy to augmentation procedures for jaw atrophies. Recent meta-analyses and systematic reviews support the use of these implants as splinted, to adequately face disproportionate crown-to-implant ratios (CIRs). On the other hand, specific features of Bicon implants, with plateau design and locking-taper connection, claim the hypothesis that these implants can be used as single crowns even in presence of high CIRs. As the stability of marginal bone levels appears to be of crucial importance for implant survival and success at the medium and long-term follow-ups, this publication overview aims to report on the experience as evidence of use of short implants rehabilitated with single crowns, presenting the 5-year clinical and radiographic outcomes of 333 Bicon implants placed in mandible and maxilla of 142 patients. Presented at Bicon’s 40th Anniversary in Catania, Sicily.
