Paul Hooson began performing as a Therapeutic Clown in 1976, at the IWK Hospital in Halifax, Canada. After being inspired by the Big Apple Circus' Clown Care Unit in 1992, he went on to create "Doc Willikers, Funny Bone Doctor", and found the MIRTH Unit Therapeutic Clown Programs at B.C.'s Children's Hospital, Sunny Hill Health Centre, and Canuck Place Hospice for Children in Vancouver, Canada, becoming Canada's first Therapeutic Clown Doctor. These programs thrived, and became a flagship for the worldwide movement to bring clown humour to institutionalized children, their families, staff, adults and elders in care. This video was part of a larger documentary called "Laughing Through The Pain", by Force Four Productions (2004), featuring individuals who use humour to help others deal with illness, grief and addictions.
