Home Economics: Lowering Housing Costs for All

American life is unaffordable for too many people and the basics are increasingly out of reach. Take housing: Home prices have risen nearly 55 percent since 2020, while rents are up more than 30 percent nationwide, straining family budgets and putting the dream of homeownership further out of reach for millions of Americans. That’s because the nation has a housing gap of millions of homes—the United States is not building enough to meet demand. Please join the Center for American Progress for a policy summit featuring Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (NY) on the housing shortage and Senate Democrats’ plans to lower housing costs as part of a larger agenda to make life more affordable for every American.
