As someone who grew up playing basketball in America, I guess I was spoiled by the fact that anytime I wanted to shoot hoops outside, there was always an outdoor court somewhere nearby. But when I got to Japan 11 years ago, I quickly realized that wasn't a common thing in Japan. There was only one court when I first moved here that was downtown in a parking lot. Sure, the rim was beaten up and the net was in tatters, but at least it was on a hardtop(it's now gone). Maybe it's just here in Gunma, but it's very rare, especially out in the countryside, to find a decent hoop with a proper court to play on. Either the goal is some cheap knockoff variation of a real rim, or the court is on dirt or loose gravel. I mean, it is really that hard to pour concrete and put up a decent hoop? I've given up trying, but my friend Josh is new to Japan and is determined to find a decent goal. More power to him. In Tokyo, and I'm sure other big cities, you can find some good outdoor hoops to play on, but not out here. But in this video, we do some exploring in Minakami and stop by and say hello to Kawaii-san, and later hit up a court somewhere in Shibukawa for some HORSE. The rim and backboard are doable, maybe the rim is an inch too high we decided, and the rim and backboard are hard as hell so if you hit either one, it's a huge BRICK! The court though, such a shame, you'll just have to see for yourself... Music by MannyMarx - Album- Vagabond
