Bladder diverticulum || Cases 540 of 2000 11 month girl Febrile urinary infection Hematuria BLADDER DIVERTICULUM : A pouch like invagination of the bladder wall caused by urinary stasis the weakened bladder wall allows an out pouching Bladder diverticulum can become infected Round well -defined, thin-walled fluid filled masses communication between the diverticulum and the bladder is often narrow . Usually seen on the posterior or lateral walls of the urinary bladder, diverticulum disappears after the patient voids, sludge may be present in the diverticula. Color Doppler images show to and fro flow across the orifice between the bladder and the diverticulum. Surprisingly, the kidneys appear normal in structure. Right kidney: Normal in size, regular in shape with smooth outline. Bipolar length 5.7 cm Cortex & medulla are well differentiated. Central echo-complex is echogenic and normal. No evidence of any focal/diffuse lesion or calculus is detected. Left Kidney: Normal in size, regular in shape with smooth outline. Bipolar length 6.8 cm Central echo-complex is echogenic and normal. No evidence of any focal/diffuse lesion or calculus is detected. Ureter: No abnormality could be detected in either of the ureter. Urinary Bladder: Well filled with smooth outline. Wall thickness is within normal limit. Two cystic area out pouching from right posterolateral wall of the UB which is communicating with the UB lumen. Post void residue is about 24ml. Suggestive of bladder diverticulum.
