Honesty in Relationships | Dr. Femi Popoola

Today’s message was a call back to something simple… but powerful: Honesty. When asked what matters most in a relationship, the overwhelming answer wasn’t looks, money, or status it was honesty. And that says something about all of us. We crave truth because we’ve felt the damage dishonesty causes. Pastor reminded us that dishonesty doesn’t just hurt others it fractures trust, distorts connection, and eventually exposes what we tried to hide. Scripture tells us to “put away falsehood” and speak truth because we belong to one another (Ephesians 4:25). What we hide to keep someone will eventually cost us. But the heart of the message went deeper than relationships. This is an identity issue. We fear being honest because we fear rejection. We fear losing love. We fear being judged. But Jesus said, “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32). When our identity is rooted in Christ, we’re no longer defined by our past, our mistakes, our credit history, our addictions, or our failures. We are defined by Him. If the Lord is our light and salvation, whom shall we fear? (Psalm 27:1) Honesty becomes easier when we know who we are. We don’t have to perform. We don’t have to hide. We don’t have to manage an image. We can live free. The altar call reminded us: in Christ, we receive a new identity, a new beginning, and the courage to walk in truth. Freedom starts with truth.
