Chapter 2 of Romans is probably no one's favorite chapter of the Bible. But, it is an important part of Paul's train of thought as he lays out the best news anyone ever had the privilege of delivering. The good news will come, but until you understand the bad news--that we're all in the same boat of sin that God can and will rightly judge--you can't really know how great the good news is! Professor Shaun LePage walks through Romans 2 in two major sections. First, "The Moralist is in sin and under wrath." In other words, God judges according to truth, deeds and revelation, so if you think you're not as bad as most other people, you're just wrong. Second, "Jews are in sin and under wrath" as well. If you are Jewish and you think you're good just because you're one of God's chosen people, that is a false foundation. In other words, both Jews and Gentiles, both religious as well as good ol' boys are all in trouble--in sin and under God's judgment. The solution to this dilemma is in chapters 3 and 4.
