In this message from Luke 13:10–17, we see a powerful reminder that in a world full of anxiety, Jesus brings true rest. Anxiety seems to follow us through every stage of life—when we don’t have a job and when we do, when we rent and when we own, when we’re healthy and when we’re sick. The circumstances change, but the anxiety remains. Why? Because the problem isn’t just “out there.” It’s the brokenness of our hearts and our desperate search for peace and security in things that can never ultimately provide it. In this passage, Jesus heals a woman who had been bent over for eighteen years—physically bound, but also spiritually oppressed. While religious leaders responded with legalism and criticism, Jesus responded with compassion, freedom, and rest. On the very day meant to symbolize God’s rest—the Sabbath—Jesus demonstrates what true Sabbath really means: restoration, wholeness, and freedom. This sermon explores: • Why anxiety is not a sin, but an attack • How spiritual battles often lie beneath physical and emotional struggles • The difference between religion and relationship • What true Sabbath rest really means • How to step into the peace Jesus offers (Philippians 4:6–9) Jesus doesn’t simply tell us to “try harder” or “worry less.” He says, “Come to me… and I will give you rest” (Gospel of Matthew 11:28). In a world driven by pressure, performance, and comparison, Jesus offers something radically different—rest for your soul. If you’re weary, anxious, overwhelmed, or simply tired of striving, this message is for you.
