This was a mocking post by a non-Hindu. Well, first, it is a bigoted view that thinks all these Hindus are so unintelligent that they have no clue on what they are doing, we are all Idolators! First, Hindus use these stone images as a medium to communicate with God. These images give us something to focus on, images that we talk to, pray to. Let us take the example of the Photographs of our loved ones – our cell phones are filled with their images – loved ones smiling, laughing, enjoying family life, the celebrations, the milestones of life! And as years go by, some loved ones leave us, kids grow up – we look at these photographs and smile, sometimes we cry. But do we mistake these images for our loved ones? Does anyone ever see us laughing and crying over these images say, “why are you crying over pixels? They are not real!”??? Of course not! We ALL understand what is going on. But back to the issue here – if one can understand that no one is crying over pixels on a phone, why can’t they understand our images? But this seems to happen a lot – a perplexing human failure where a simple change in a word, seems to engender different views, sometimes based on the color of the skin, gender, religion etc. Let us suppose one is living in Russia, and it is found that he or she is not a supporter of Putin. What if this person was walking on the street one day, and a few black clad men approached this person and threatened them with dire consequences? “Watch your back, some goons will show up one day and break your legs. Kill your family!” Would we not call it evil, wrong? And yet let us change the name Putin to God and now yours truly have gotten similar threats – I will face dire consequences in their afterworld! Not just me but my loved ones, children, babies! Imagine the sight of Children and babies being dumped into hell to burn! How frighteningly cruel, callous, evil! But ah, now this falls under “Religious freedom!” and these religions can OPENLY PROMOTE such hate! NOT ONE EDUCATED, MORAL PERSON HAS EVER SPOKEN UP AGAINST SUCH HATE! NOT ONE! NOT ONE MEDIA MEMBER HAS EVER TALKED OR WRITTEN ABOUT THIS! If you see a guy jam a hook through a dog’s jaw and yank it around, the dog screaming in pain, blood all over, you would be horrified! Yell at that guy, call the cops! But do the same to a fish, and now it is fun, fun, fun for the whole family! Are we this simple? It seems we are! In the 21st Century! Should we not be better than this? . But let us get back to the title of this post – these words are expressing an expectation of a reward! Why waste time with praying to rocks, when if we pray to their “Real God”, our prayers will be answered! It is like someone asking you, “Why are you friends with that poor guy? He can do nothing for you. See that rich guy over there? Let us go and try to make friends with him. Laugh at his jokes, sing his praises, mock those he dislikes, and we get to live the good life leeching off him!” And that is where the quote of the title is coming from – the vast majority of humanity view God as their Sugar Daddy, their ticket to an everlasting life of ease & comfort. No one mentions any work being done, no one even asks! Amazingly not even the best of minds ask how it makes any sense for billions of people to be just sitting about doing nothing, an idle, lazy, useless, pointless existence for eternity, shamelessly mooching off God! But that is not the life that God has created for us here in the REAL WORLD – Here, we must WORK for a living, only shameless sycophants, prostitutes, gigolos sponge off rich Sugar Daddies. We EARN what we desire, aspire for! We do not beg, no one GIVES us anything, nothing in life is free! The lesson that Hinduism is imparting here is yes, these stones can do nothing for you. God will do nothing for you. God will help those who help themselves. God Krishna clearly told us in the Mahabharata, “I will only advice and instruct. I will do no more!” . We all must put in the hard work, make sacrifices, take risks, deal with setbacks – God is with us all the way, encouraging, instructing! That is how the REAL WORLD, that God created for us, works! So, pray the right way, not with words, but with Actions, Works! Do not ask God to wipe away your troubles, ask God for the strength and wisdom to face those troubles and overcome them! The weak, the lazy, the coward have given up. They drool over cheap religious promises of the easy, lazy KEPT life of comfort being GIVEN to them! God views them with contempt and disgust and again, amazingly even the most intelligent of us cannot stop drooling over cheap religious promises! Hinduism says if such a KEPT life of comfort is what they want, they will be resurrected as our Pets – take our dog for instance – it is fed, protected, sheltered, cared for – does nothing all day, just lays about! It is GIVEN this life of ease & comfort – Heaven!
