Cut-price! Mazda CX-80 2025 review: Is the Japanese brand's base 7-seat SUV better than Kia Sorento?

The 2025 Mazda CX-80 large SUV is the latest model to launch as part of the Japanese brand's move upmarket. It joins the five-seat CX-60 and CX-70, and another seven-seater, the larger CX-90. Confused? Don't be. The CX-80 is surprisingly the most affordable model of the four – for now, at least – with its entry-level Pure G40e variant starting from a tick under $55,000 plus on-road costs. As such, the CX-80 find itself going tyre to tyre with the Kia Sorento and Hyundai Santa Fe, among others. Mazda buyers have the choice between two 3.3-litre turbo-petrol inline six-cylinder engines, with the petrol producing 209kW of power and 450Nm of torque, while the diesel outputs 187kW/550Nm. Both get 48V mild hybrid assistance. There's also a plug-in hybrid (PHEV).
