On Saturday, January 28, 2017 the Albina Ministerial Alliance Coalition for Justice and Police Reform held a March for Justice and Equality that led from the Martin Luther King Jr statue at the Convention Center to Maranatha Church in NE Portland. The date coincided with the 7th anniversary of the death of Aaron Campbell, an unarmed African American man shot by Portland Police in 2010, as well as the transition to a new federal government that poses a threat to the civil liberties of many communities. Featured are speakers from the Coalition, the NAACP of Portland, a Grant High School student, a number of faith leaders, staff persons for Senators Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden, an immigrant rights organizer, representatives from Asians 4 Black Lives PDX, Sisters Of the Road, and Iraq Veterans Against the War, as well as parents of both Aaron Campbell and James Chasse Jr (who was beaten to death by police in 2006). Music from local legend Marilyn Keller, Pastor ED Mondaine, and Naomi Littlebear Morena. The crowd size, estimated at 3000, was so large the rally could not fit into the Church on the cold winter day. The march lifted people's spirits and sent a message that people want police to end their violence against the community of Portland-- and around the nation. This show was taped by Steven Roberts (assisted by PC Peri) and produced/edited by Dan Handelman. 0:00 : Opening Credits 1:15 : Marilyn Keller- "Lift Ev'ry Voice and Sing" 2:41 : Jo Ann Hardesty / Rev.
