By definition, a national anthem is a patriotic musical composition symbolizing and evoking eulogies of the history and traditions of a country or nation. For an artist it is equally a great honor and a great responsibility to be invited to perform it. How do you inspire the feelings of pride and patriotism, no less the heroic spirit of the long-gone era in which the composer lived? Similar to a sacred aria, performing a national anthem is a humbling endeavor, as the artist must be devoid of his personal ego and unify with those sentiments. In directing the videoclip and recording the music of the Italian anthem, on the occasion of the Italian National Day on June 2, 2024, I envisioned generations of proud Italians, including those who, like me, left the country for the US in pursuit of dreams and opportunities. It was also to thank the outstanding individuals (especially those who are showcased in this video clip) and who, through their intrinsic values, professions and daily acts, advance and elevate the Italian culture, traditions and legacy to highest standards in the world.
