I included some highlights of the article below, but ran out of space, so please use the link above for the fun full read of its kool history!. "MERCURY MONTEREY 1951 350 /200 R4 Dick Dean's chop is considered one of the best done with the original rear window. Lee Lucero was 11 years old when he was impressed by his brother-in-law's brand new 51. When Lee graduated from High School he got hold of a 50 with 35,000 miles on the odometer. In two weeks it was lowered, milled with scallops and with a Buick V8 it was rolled out. This latest 51-a build that took 5-6 years was a 5000 mile original car that was stored for a decade to build up a budget. The car was manufactured at the Oklahoma factory and was probably driven west by the first owner to be used sparingly and even today some traces of the beige factory paint can be seen if you crawl around in the car. According to an article in HOP UP 2002, Lee himself has done some work. However, some small jobs have been done by specialists around the USA. The most famous by far is the roof lowering and body modifications by Dick Dean. The white interior all in leather by Gabe Lopez. The paint is House of Kolor with the color name Candy Purple which was applied sometime in the early 90s by Tom Rodriques. Looks dark or black but in the sun the plum red comes out. It is said that Lee decided how to build it when he saw the Mercury 5 in the movie "Book of Love". He first thought it would be possible to buy it from the film company who had only rented it. The owner in turn refused to sell but suggested that Lee should ask Dick Dean who built the movie car. Dick accepted and Lee had his brilliantly beautiful object standing. Many car enthusiasts here don't know Dick Dean, but he was a long-time employee of Barris. "Sultan of chop" is a common nickname and on YouTube he says he doesn't know how many chops he's done."
