In late 1904, fresh from icy ventures in the unexplored Antarctic, Robert Falcon Scott traveled to Balmoral and then across the UK to present a series of lectures on the pioneering Discovery Expedition. One lecture loomed in the explorer’s mind, with a sense of nerves in the run-up; perhaps spurred by the city’s large community of experienced (and vocal) whalers and shipbuilders. Today’s episode of The Blizzard brings the Dundee lecture and the busy months following the Discovery Expedition to life, told by historian Liam Maloney. From grand dinners amongst Royalty, to halls filled with spectators eager to hear of adventures in the frozen south, we delve into Captain Scott’s letters to uncover lesser-told stories. -- The Blizzard Podcast invites explorers and enthusiasts behind-the-scenes aboard this historic ship. It would return to the Antarctic on two subsequent voyages, in a career that spanned the globe.
