City of Truro’s Historic First Arrival at Lappa Valley’s New East Wheal Rose Platform | 17 Feb 2026

On Tuesday 17th February 2026, City of Truro hauled the very first passenger service into Lappa Valley’s brand new platform at East Wheal Rose — marking the first new platform on the Main Railway in around 45 years. After more than two months of winter construction, a full train of excited Lappa Friends were welcomed by Keith for the inaugural arrival. The new platform sits closer to The Engine Shed Café & Soft Play and has been designed to be much easier to use for visitors with accessibility requirements. The project forms part of Lappa Valley’s wider winter improvements, investing in infrastructure and visitor facilities ahead of the new season — and it’s only the beginning. Future plans include rebuilding a brand-new Gift Shop and replacing the old platform as part of a larger development programme.
