The decorations also nod to the upcoming 250th anniversary celebration next year of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the founding of the United States of America. One thing that's a bit different this year is the official White House Christmas tree, which is always on display in the Blue Room. It's always a huge 18-foot beautiful tree. This year it's doing double duty as what is known as the Gold Star tree. Now that tree traditionally was in the East Wing, and it was the first tree that visitors would see when they entered from that side of the building. But the East Wing was demolished in October by President Donald Trump because he wants to build a ballroom. So, the gold star motif has been transferred to the official White House Christmas tree, which also still celebrates the United States and is decorated with ornaments from each state and territory.” 10. They were suspended several months ago after the ballroom construction got underway. So, guests will now enter through the Pennsylvania Avenue side of the White House and tour the rooms on the State floor, the East Room, the Red, Blue, and Green rooms, the State Dining room, the Cross Hall, and the Grand Foyer.” 18.
