Knowledge Now - Graduate Scholar: Adrienne Young

Adrienne's doctoral research examines how youth engagement in mental health systems can be made more equitable and impactful at a time when youth mental health becomes an increasing focus of attention for governments and society. Focusing on Youth Advisory Councils (YACs) as a mechanism for youth engagement, their work explores how these councils support—or fail to support—meaningful youth influence in mental health programs. Using a Two-Eyed Seeing framework that incorporates Indigenous and Western knowledge systems, they will analyze interviews and focus groups with youth advisors and adult facilitators to understand the processes and impacts of YACs, and what they can teach us about building more just and responsive mental health systems for young people.
