What is Computer Assisted Diagnosis?
In this video, Dr John Guelke (an ethics researcher from the University of Warwick) provides a brief introduction to computer assisted diagnosis. With the help of animations, the video explains what digital pathology Whole Slide Images are, and how patterns found on Whole Slide Images of tissue may indicate disease, such as cancer. The video shows that the patterns detected by computer use annotations of the whole slide images made by expert human pathologists. Patients who think machine diagnosis is independent of expert human judgement should be reassured. The video also covers the protection of patient identities associated with tissue samples captured by Whole Slide Images. Subtitles are available in English, Polish, Punjabi and Urdu using the closed captions (CC) function on the video toolbar.
