Description Number of Seats Restricted. A 70-hour (2 weeks) comprehensive program aimed for remote worksites or employers located more than 20 minutes away from medical aid. The course is designed in accordance with the WorkSafeBC standards and is fully approved by the Worker’s Compensation Board. Topics Covered: Emergency scene management and patient assessment Human anatomy Priority Action Approach Interventions of the airway with C-spine control, oxygen therapy and equipment Basic life support (CPR & AED) Circulatory interventions and management Spinal injury management Repetitive strain injury (RSI) Minor wound, soft tissue, and fracture management Shock and severe bleeding Eye injuries Abdominal injuries Traumatic cardiac emergencies and cardiopulmonary resuscitation Head and brain injuries Managing diabetic conditions and seizures Rapid transport criteria Packaging and transportation Techniques for responsive and unresponsive patients Medical referrals and First Aid Record documentation Medical conditions Environmental illnesses Prerequisites: Must be 16 years old or older Must be physically capable of performing first aid techniques and will be prompted to complete Candidate Statement of Fitness Must complete pre-course reading Certification Requirements Participants must be present and active during all lessons of the course, and must hand in all required homework. The examination will consist of practical and written parts, and candidates must score at least 70% in every part.
