It's an old video, but i decided to share it with you anyway. This video has been extracted from a VHS video tape, which has been extracted from a digital tape. My friend filmed it with some intervals. The camera did not have stability so it is what it is. The story: In 1998 i came with the idea to participate in the National 50cc road racing championship and began converting a street legal bike into a proper race bike and registered myself to the SOBW (race organisation) and so Sparrow Racing was born. My first race was in 1999, starting with race number 51 and climbed up to number 17 on the final ranking. In 2002 my younger brother, who was in charge of transportation and mechanics, joined me on the racetrack as well. During the 2003 season i broke my wrist during a road accident. The (very painful) fracture was discovered 9 months later and had to let my arm heal in a plaster cast for another 9 months, ruining my 2003 season. First race of 2004; Lelystad 27th of March 2004: My wrist was still healing in a plaster cast at the start of the 2004 season but i decided to start the first race of the season anyway. At the start of the race, the field isn't lined up correctly. My position should have been more in the middle of the field. My start was good and i gained one position after another. Also losing some in the process. At the end of the video, i had a fight for a position while another contender was trying to lap me. Although there was no position for him to gain or loose, he decided to interfere in the worst possible spot on the track (he would have to take the outside line in the next corner), and outbraked himself. His front wheel slipped from underneath him and took me out in the process. All of the hard work gone up in smoke, not a happy ending. He accused me of causing his crash. My wrist was fine but i had some injuries to my right arm, hip and upper leg when i landed onto his footrest. The injuries and the high costs forced me to stop. Still. i have good memories of great battles and great sportsmanship. This sport is one big family... with an occasional black sheep.
