Goldens of Kells, whose family established their business in Kells in 1776, at the entrance to the first 3.1km section of the South Kerry Greenway from Goldens Shop, Kells to the Old Railway Station at Kells. It will be fully accessible to pedestrians and cyclists from Friday 19th December. Members of the public will get a first glimpse of the incredible vistas of Kells along the Iveragh Peninsula and a taste of the iconic railway journey from Glenbeigh to Renard. The Farranfore –Valentia Harbour line was considered the most westerly railway in Europe. The spectacular railway line was the main source of transport for the Iveragh Peninsula. The journey was precarious, climbing mountains, passing through tunnels, 2 viaducts, a pub and onto Valentia Harbour. The line was operated by the Great Southern and Western Railway from 1892 until 1st February 1960.
