My 20 year old Kohler engine finally packed up completely - it doesn't start anymore without spending at least 20mins pulling. Time for an upgrade! Being in the UK means another Kohler (US) engine is too expensive, I was quoted around £1200! Plus the speedy availability of spares is an issue. Honda makes engines that have the mounting holes and the shaft in the same location as the Kohler, but are still more than twice as expensive than this Lifan, a cheap 1:1 Honda copy. As usual, things become a little more complicated than initially anticipated, in this case most issues are due to the fact that the old engine had a vertical cylinder, all the new ones have the cylinder angled sidewards at 45 degrees, which causes all sorts of clearance issues...
