PAINTING VIDEO DESCRIPTION – Let me be your acrylic painting instructor as I take you through easy step-by-step instructions of this canvas painting tutorial as you learn how to paint a cardinal sipping from a faucet with acrylic paint. It’s believed that when a cardinal appears that an angel is near, perhaps to send a message from beyond. Native to North America, these bright and beautiful birds often bring a sense of comfort to those who have recently lost a loved one. I’ve only seen a couple of cardinals in my life, all times were shortly after someone I knew had passed away. The first was after my grandmother had moved on and me and my family drove down to Florida for her funeral, and we were visited briefly by a red cardinal that walked along the top of the wooden privacy fence in her backyard. We all believed that it was her who came back to say her goodbyes. Another time I saw one of these red longtail songbirds was on my back porch not too long after learning that the previous homeowner, who had lived in the house for almost 50 years, had passed away. I thought maybe he came back to check in on the house to make sure I was taking good care of it. Whether or not you believe cardinals are angels or messages from Heaven or beyond, they are very rare and beautiful birds. So, join me and paint with acrylics this graceful and magical winged-creature and perhaps capture a moment when you too where perhaps visited from a heavenly spirit. The painting process is so simple that you will be able to change your bird into any species you want; a robin, sparrow, finch, chickadee, goldfinch, starling, woodpecker, blue jay or dove. You could even change the fountain into a hose, a watering hole, a waterfall, a birdbath, a cup, a bowl, or anything that you can image your bird to sip from. First, you’ll paint a warm and inviting out of focus bokeh background with autumn colors to create the perfect backdrop for your fall image. Then, after learning how draw a bird and water faucet using a basic dot-to-dot drawing method, you’ll apply a base coat for both objects to work off of. Next, you’ll paint highlights and shadows on the water valve and spigot to give it a metallic look and form creating a 3-D appearance like a photograph. After easily painting facial features on your bird, you’ll learn how to use a one brushstroke and layering technique when painting the feathers and tail to create added depth, texture and dimension to the body. Using only 3 brushes, 6 colors, and only one brush per step, you’ll paint like a pro! Paint loosely and make it an abstract painting, paint with oils for fine art, paint with bold yellows and red to make it pop art, put more detail with trees and leaves and make it a beautiful landscape scenery, or block your image and paint like Picasso!
