0:00 I. Adagio 2:21 II. Corrente: Allegro 5:53 III. Rondeau: Allegro How do you know, as a recorder player, when you’re playing a transcription of a piece written for (and by) a violinst? When many passages on the page makes perfect sense in your mind and NO sense under your fingers! Francoeur was a highly-regarded violinist and composer for his instrument, but I cannot recommend that any recorder player who isn’t up for a serious challenge attempt this piece as some of the intervals are very clearly string crossings and require nothing less than rote repetition to get them even vaguely into your hands on the recorder. Add to this that I personally wrestle with the tenor recorder as a solo instrument. I love the sound but I struggle to play it with the same fluidity as its smaller siblings, a fact that I cannot account for strictly because of the instrument’s size as I play bassoon and contrabassoon too!
