The Monocoupe 110 Special variant of 1931 was built to meet the needs of racing pilots. The wingspan was shortened from the standard 32 ft to 23 ft, a 125h.p. Warner Scarab was installed and fairings and wheel spats added. Seven of the Specials were built by Monocoupe and three further aircraft were modified to a similar standard by homebuilders. The last Model 110 Special to be completed in 1941 was N36Y "Little Butch", which re-entered the airshow circuit in 1946, powered by a 185h.p. Warner Super Scarab engine. The aircraft flew displays until 1981 and was then donated to the National Air and Space Museum in Washington DC. The Durafly Monocoupe is constructed from ultra-durable EPO foam and is beautifully finished with water slide decals. This model really looks the part with its attention to scale detail including wheel spats, large rubber tires, wing supports, rigging wire, and molded exhaust pipes. Being plug and fly, the motor, ESC, and servos are all pre-installed. "Little Butch" was all about performance and this beautiful scale model follows suit. It offers great vertical performance and tracks very well, making aerobatics a breeze. Loops, rolls, and stall turns are performed easily and with very scale-like precision. Despite its high performance and aerobatic capability, the Monocoupe can be slowed right down offering stable flight characteristics for those looking for a relaxing Sunday flyer.
