In this video, we show you how to relieve arthritic pain with Dr Hilary Jones, GP and TV presenter. Did you know this July is Arthritis Awareness month? If you have arthritis you will almost certainly be aware of it, and you're certainly not alone. There are 10 million people in the UK with some form of arthritis; even children can be affected. Joints that are mainly affected by arthritis are: Hands Spine Hips Knees These are the most commonly affected joints, but any joints can suffer. The result is pain, tenderness and stiffness; there's often inflammation and redness around the joints as well as swelling. Arthritis will also cause restriction of movement and the weakness of the muscles around those joints. It's always best to check with your GP if you are experiencing these symptoms. One of the most important things to do is to keep active. Joints are meant to be moved and keeping active is really important; use existing hobbies to keep arthritis at bay. If you enjoy gardening then keep gardening and keep those muscles moving. It is also really important to have some help on hand as the likelihood of a fall increases as arthritis worsens. By wearing something as simple as a slip and fall monitor you will have you the reassurance that you need that help is on hand should the worst happen.
