This beautiful old farm house was built sometime in the early to mid 1800’s for a moderately wealthy middle class agrarian family. Most likely built between 1830 to 1845, the attic features mortise and tenon construction with the rafters joined by wooden dowels. A technique which is more so typical of early American construction that phased out of standard building practices over time, like hand made square nails during the Industrial Revolution. Another interesting technique of the home is that the walls of the house have been chinked with bricks and clay, most likely to seal in heat for cold snowy days like in this video. I suspect the farm house had a large update and renovation during the turn of the century which gives it the pretty Italianate/ Victorian details seen on the exterior like the curved central window and ornate corbels that adorn the gables. Such a cool old house hopefully it can be saved and restored. So many beautiful details inside even with most of the walls removed. Thanks for watching and my apologies for any audio issues in the video.
