This was a big hike day in the Lake District with glorious weather and great visibility. Starting from Coniston Central car park, we walked up the Coppermines valley and enjoyed walking around the outdoor museum. Then it was up to Levers Water, proceeding upwards to the pile of stones between Swill How and Wetherlam. This path is hard to find in places but gets better at the top. Turning left onto the Prison Band, we made the tough ascent up to the summit of Swirl How and got spectacular views from there. Next we decided to also do Great Carrs but decided against Grey Friar. Then we retraced our steps down the Prison Band and headed to Wetherlam. The first part of this path is fairly steep but it soon becomes almost like a ridge walk. At the top it was very busy but we got our photos and then enjoyed the views. Next we descended back down to the Coppermines Valley but after looking at the OS map we took the middle route following Red Dell Beck. This was a bad move as the path is very hard to find and is very steep. It was a struggle but we made it and eventually we got back to Coniston. #Wetherlam #SwirlHow #GreatCarrs
