(24 Jul 2016) A man filmed verbally sparring with the Munich shooter, said he did so because the feeling of powerlessness made him angry. The man who raised his voice was Thomas Salbey, a construction worker from Munich, and a tenant in a high-rise apartment block behind the targeted shopping mall. Salbey, an operator of a demolition vehicle from Munich, said he came home from work on Friday, picked up a few beers and was sitting on his balcony with his friend when he heard a noise he at first thought thought originated from fire-crackers. As it went on, he saw crowds of people running away and looked more closely. Salbey said he began to realise what what was going on when he saw the shooter walking through a glass tunnel connecting the mall with a two storey car park, reloading his gun. After a brief verbal exchange, the shooter fired a few rounds, apparently towards the building. Salbey said he ducked for cover behind the balcony wall, but he thinks the target might have been the people filming the scene on their mobiles as no bullets came his way. He claims he saw policemen with a machine gun on the ground, by the corner of the parking lot, and he shouted at them too, trying to communicate the location of the shooter. Then, the shooter ran away and the scene was obscured by the building so he heard a few more shots, but does not know what happened next. Asked how he dared confront the armed attacker with nothing more than words, Salbey said: "I thought this can't be true, first in France the complete idiots, and now it is happening here in Munich. I was really angry. And I told him my opinion, the asshole. But he didn't care at all." The gunman whose rampage at a Munich mall left nine people dead was a depression-plagued teenager who apparently tried to lure young victims to their deaths through a faked Facebook posting, authorities said on Saturday. Most of the dead were youths and all were Munich residents of varied ethnic backgrounds.
