In this interview Alan talks with us about ARRI's line up of camera stabilizer systems including the Trinity Hybrid Stabilizer, Maxima Stabilized Gimbal & the SRH-3 Stabilized Remote Head. The SRH-3 is a three-axis fully stabilized remote head allowing for cameras to go where no person can, with increased flexibility and ease. Whether it be on set, in a studio, or at an event, this compact but high-quality stabilized remote head offers solutions that were simply not previously possible at such levels of precision. To provide outstanding stabilization, the motors inside the ARRI Stabilized Remote Head SRH-3 can compensate for external centrifugal force by adding extra motor power. The SRH-3 can also be remote controlled with its newly designed, joystickbased ARRI SRH-3 control board with optional wheels. The ARRI Stabilized Remote Head SRH-3 is extremely compact and light, weighing in at 9 kg (19.8 lbs.). However, the lower weight does not equate to lower support capabilities; the SRH-3 is able to handle payloads of up to 30 kg (66 lbs.)—in excess of three times its own weight. TRINITY is the first hybrid camera stabilizer that combines classic mechanical stabilization with advanced active electronic stabilization, provided via 32-bit ARM-based gimbal technology. This combination results in five axes of control and enables uniquely fluid, wide-ranging, and precisely controlled movements for unrestricted shooting and total creative freedom. New angles for the operator and new storytelling options for the director and cinematographer are possible with TRINITY. By inverting the post, the camera can be moved from low mode to high mode during a shot; using the joystick-controlled, fully stabilized tilt axis to look up or down during this motion is also possible, so a low angle can smoothly transition into an over-the-shoulder shot. The MAXIMA gimbal is a crucial component of TRINITY, but is also available separately as the MX30 – a 3-axis electronically stabilized gimbal. Its simple, lightweight design and perfect center of gravity provide new levels of freedom while its stable construction allows for compatibility with any camera system weighing 30 kg or less. At the center of the unique design is an extremely durable ball bearing roll cage as well as specially designed brushless motors. Optimized bearings and high torque ensure that there is always enough power in reserve, no matter how demanding the application.
