17 Year Journey to Freedom” is a song about becoming a citizen of the United States of America. We owe our new citizens special recognition for going through the legal process to become citizens. As you will hear, many new citizens suffered tremendous pain and sorrow in the long and tedious process of legal US citizenship. They deserve our praise, support and thanks. The current border and immigration situation has insulted the effort and dedication of those who have come to the USA legally. The woman in my song, May, feels insulted that she :”worked her ass off’ to become a citizen and now her efforts have been cheapened and disrespected by the destructive disregard for the legal process.
