Piece Title: They Were Wrong I was honored to have my piece chosen and showcased in my dance company's (Universal Rhythm Dance Co.) 18th annual Mainstage Production. I'm glad to leave my mark on that stage in my third and final year with the company. EJ Aban is a Senior, 3rd year member and Student Director of Universal Rhythm Dance Company. EJ grew up doing martial arts and has a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do. From his martial arts background, he transitioned into playing other sports, and ultimately transitioned into his passion, Dance. EJ began dancing in the 9th grade in Mrs. Roberts Jazz 1 Class. Prior to that he had no dance experience... unless you count knowing ALL the high school musical numbers. EJ was a mentor and this year, one of the Directors for No Limit Rhythm Dance Club at Smedberg Middle School. He has also had minimal training from Elite Studio of Dance. EJ would like to thank his very supportive friends and family who have been there throughout his high school dance career. He would also like to thank Hobby, Robby, and Mrs. Altamero for allowing him to have this experience. This year, EJ's piece derives from personal experiences and observations. His piece is about bullying, but more focused on the things people say. EJ states that, "In my opinion I think that words hurt more than actions, because physical bullying heals, and those words really attack your heart and the inner you. Your heart does mend itself, but it takes a substantial amount of time and affects your true person. This dance has been a learning experience for me and I hope my dancers as well. I've learned to not let what people say affect me, because no one know me better than I know myself. In the end they were wrong." Please enjoy, "They Were Wrong" Music: To This Day - Shane Koyczan
