Join us: https://bit.ly/3Rz1uCH In a decisive step against drug trafficking, Kohima Police on Friday destroyed a substantial quantity of drugs worth Rs 1.34 crore, following a recent order issued by the Special Judge, Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS), Kohima. The destruction took place at the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) dumping site, with senior police officials and local leaders in attendance. The drugs, comprising large quantities of ganja, heroin, and cough syrup, had been seized in several major busts over the past three years. A total of 1,028 kilograms of drugs were destroyed during the operation. Among the drugs incinerated were 350 kg of ganja, seized in 2021 at Agri Colony, Kohima, in a case registered at South Police Station. The heroin, weighing 180 grams and stored in 12 soap cases, was seized at the Khuzama Check Gate along the Nagaland-Manipur border in 2022. Another significant seizure involved 680 kg of ganja intercepted near the Sechu Zubza Police Station in 2022. Another 500 bottles of cough syrup, each 100 ml, were seized at Kidima village in 2023 in a case registered at Kezocha Police Station. The destruction was carried out under the supervision of a Destruction Committee headed by DIG (Range), Uniel Kichu Ao, IPS, along with Kohima SP Bharat Laxman Markad, IPS, and other police officers. Local community representatives, including the Chairman of the Meriema Village Council, were also present.
