The FPC hoist safety brake manufactured by Eide is a mechanical unit designed to prevent accidental falls in motorised lifting mechanisms by a pinion and a rack. The system only acts when the rate of descent is higher than a predetermined value. The sensing elements work by the centrifugal force and lock the follower pinion against the structure. The interlocking occurs damped, and the platform is immobilised once braked. The FPC hoist safety brake has an automatic reset: when the mechanism operates in the opposite direction to the locking and the platform is raised by a few centimetres, the FPC safety brake returns to its original state, allowing its use immediately without the need for intervention by any operator.
