This week, we cycled from Dushanbe deeper into the mountains of Tajikistan, making our way toward the Pamir Plateau. The journey began on smoother roads, passing through peaceful villages like Faysobod and Obigarm. The landscape around us was rich with apple orchards and dramatic mountain views, as the route followed the contours of the valley. After Obigarm, the paved road ended, and we entered a more remote and rugged stretch. The road turned to gravel and dust, winding through a narrow valley beside the powerful Vakhsh River. The conditions were rough — loose stones, heavy dust, and sections that made climbing extremely difficult. We faced a series of major ascents on deteriorated roads, pushing ourselves and our bikes up into higher altitudes. Despite the challenges, the scenery made it all worthwhile. We stopped at a beautiful alpine lake tucked away in the mountains, a peaceful spot that offered a moment of rest and reflection before continuing the journey. Eventually, we reached Tavildara, a remote village where we prepared ourselves and our gear for the upcoming mountain pass — a 3,300-meter climb into the highlands of the Pamirs. This part of the trip marked the true beginning of our adventure into Central Asia’s most remote and breathtaking regions.
