Honour is not flattery, human worship, or blind followership. Honour is a deliberate act of seeing people the way God sees them. It is an outward expression of the inward posture of the heart. In 1 Peter 2:17, we are instructed to honour, and this instruction is not based on performance or perfection. Honour can be expressed in different directions. First, honouring up. This means honouring leaders, spiritual gifts, and those placed above us. We are called to esteem them for their work’s sake, as stated in 1 Thessalonians 5:12–13. We honour them both in words and actions—by submitting to and obeying them, and by supporting them through prayers and words of encouragement. Second, honouring down. Those in leadership should also honour their subordinates or followers. Honour is reciprocal, even though it is not always expressed in the same way or form. Finally, honouring all round. We are to honour every believer because we share the same Spirit, regardless of age or status. Scripture calls us to outdo one another in love—to serve, celebrate, and forgive one another. We are also expected to honour the gathering of believers and not rebel against established structures and systems. 🎥 Watch the full teaching to learn more. #proclaimingcityinternational #pastoremmanueladekunle #localchurch #churchfamily #churchcode #churchofchrist #churchofgod #honour #honor
