This video was created for use on the UK's Multi Comfort website - https://multicomfort.saint-gobain.co.uk/ Transcript of video Typically, most of us want to look and feel well We now spend billions on organic foods, safer cleaning products and healthier cosmetics because when we have a choice, we choose to do what we can to improve our wellbeing But our wellbeing begins where we live our lives – starting with the place we call home It is estimated that we spend up to 90% of our time indoors, whether in buildings or in our vehicles – with as much as 65% of this at home Despite this, few people question whether their homes in which they spend their day-to-day lives, provide an environment that is affecting their overall comfort and wellbeing There has been much work recently on how homes can be designed and built to improve our wellbeing One such report was published by the UK Green Building Council, called ‘ Health and wellbeing in homes’ The report shows that the design and quality of a home and neighbourhood is a key contributor to the health and wellbeing of the people who live there Factors ranging from the quality of the internal air, to how much space and light there is, even how much storage space is available, can have measurable impacts on our health and wellbeing Also, the design of the neighbourhood around a home is critical: it provides opportunities for social interaction, exercise, access to nature, local amenities and schools All of these have a bearing on how much residents will enjoy living in their community, and on their own personal health and wellbeing Many of the design features which enhance our wellbeing also bring positive environmental benefits Therefore, these features should be considered early in the design process of new homes that are built Especially as the results of a survey undertaken by us at Saint-Gobain as part of this research revealed that over 30% of homeowners would be willing to pay more for a home that didn’t compromise their health and wellbeing, with nearly as many renters prepared to pay higher rent for such a home too
