Karsus's Folly. The Fall of Netheril Empire in D&D

The Netheril Empire represented the height of human civilization in Dungeons & Dragons. With Netherese magic, entire cities were raised into the skies. However, war with the Phaerimm reduced Netheril's lands into a desolate wasteland. Lord Karsus, determined to save his people, created the spell Karsus's Avatar and artifact Crown of Karsus. Karsus intended to steal power from the Goddess of Magic, Mystryl, with the spell and artifact. As Karsus casted the spell and stole Mystryl's divine power, he realized his folly. He did not know how to regulate the magic of the world. Mystryl sacrificed herself to stop Karsus, causing all magic to fail momentarily. Without magic, Netherese floating cities fell, ending the Netheril empire. A new Goddess of Magic, Mystra, was born from Mystryl's sacrifice. Mystra limited all magic to the 10th level thereafter to prevent such catastrophe from ever occurring again. #dndlore #forgottenrealms #fantasyworld
