Try My TrainWise App Free For 7 Days from the App Store or at TrainWiseApp.com ---------------------------------------- Jeff Nippard is right: most people butcher calf training by bouncing through the bottom half of the rep or skipping it entirely. And that’s exactly why their calves still look like ankles. The stretch position is where the real growth stimulus happens for the soleus and gastrocnemius. And this isn’t just bro science, it’s backed by recent research. A 2023 study by Pedrosa et al. looked at full versus partial range of motion on seated calf raises. The group that trained through the full range, including a deep, loaded stretch at the bottom, saw significantly greater muscle hypertrophy compared to the group that only trained the top half. This means that rushing through the bottom portion of the movement or using a limited range cheats you out of calf gains. To actually grow your calves, you need slow, controlled negatives with a deliberate pause in the stretched position. Let your heels sink all the way down. Hold it. Then drive up. #fitness #gym #workout #buildmuscle #bodybuilding
