This episode revisits Łódź, a once booming, multicultural industrial city known as the "Promised Land," where Jewish entrepreneurs, workers, writers, and activists helped shape its modern identity. The film transitions from the lives of prominent factory owners like Israel Poznański to the harrowing history of the Litzmannstadt Ghetto, including its hunger, deportations, and the controversial role of Chaim Mordechai Rumkowski. We visit sites that still bear witness to this history: the Jewish cemetery and the Poznański mausoleum; the former ghetto streets; the ruined children’s hospital; and Radegast Station, from which transports left for Chełmno and Auschwitz. Through interviews with historians, educators, and survivors' descendants—including references to Jerzy Kosiński and Marek Edelman—the episode shows how today's Łódź grapples with antisemitism, forgetfulness, and the weight of its past, while also creating festivals, research projects, and memorial sites, such as the Survivors' Park, to preserve the stories of Jewish Łódź for future generations.
