Half a year ago, in March 2025—while the Israel–Palestine conflict was escalating—I started planning a trek through the newly established Jordan Trail, a long-distance hiking route across the Middle Eastern kingdom of Jordan. The idea came from a fellow trekker I met the previous year while walking the Everest Trail in Nepal. This time, instead of shivering in the thin air of the Himalayas, I would challenge myself under the blazing desert sun. A complete contrast—ice to sand, cold to heat. Despite knowing how harsh the desert could be, my imagination was filled with cinematic visions—Arabian Nights, Indiana Jones, and Lawrence of Arabia. Mysterious. Dangerous. Seductive. I wanted to go. I wanted to see. I wanted to feel it.
