Putin’s Vanity project in Ukraine is officially its worst conflict since World War 2 with a staggering 1.2 million Russian casualties…Ukraine isn’t far behind either, putting the total closer to 2 million. Beyond destroying bodies physically it’s also hammering people’s minds. At home there are more and more cases of PTSD. And on the battlefield it’s to the point where Russian soldiers are torturing each other. Things won’t get better anytime soon and there’s no peace agreement in sight. Russia’s demands for peace include a disarmed Ukraine and land it hasn’t even conquered yet. Ukraine wants its territory back and certainly doesn’t want to give up more. Not to mention it really wants security guarantees so that Putin just doesn’t attack again. And here’s the Catch-22: New reports say that Trump is willing to do that… AFTER Ukraine signs a peace agreement. But Ukraine thinks it needs those baked into an agreement to have a strong negotiating position. Especially since there’s a good chance there will be meetings next week. For many this feels like Trump is essentially telling Ukraine that it will NEED to give up territory. It’s also clear why getting land is so important for Putin. Even he would have a hard time convincing Russia to sign a peace with nothing to show for it. Otherwise the conflict would've been for nothing.
