There’s a shortage of guidance out there for home gardeners interested in pursuing regenerative practices like cover cropping and no-till growing in general. Online Gardening School. https://www.wildabundance.net/online-... Chloe of Wild Abundance demonstrates how easy it is to plant right into a recently “crimped” cover cropped in-ground gardening area... the mulch is all right there from killing off the cover crop and covering it with a tarp for a month to smother it fully. In our last reel about cover cropping we showed a simple low-tech human-powered method of terminating cover crops that any 2 people with a T post and some rope can do at home... and folks had a lot of questions! It just goes to show how many gardeners want to be learning how to do regenerative practices to tend their soil better and we LOVE THAT! Keep your questions coming and we’ll do our best to answer. For a full review of why we cover crop and how to crimp for termination, see our previous reel for the how-to demo! 🌳 Seasonal cover crops can keep living roots in the soil during the periods between growing seasons, and some even pull down nitrogen from the atmosphere. 🌿 Crimping the cover crop makes way for planting your garden while leaving the roots to decompose in place. 🍄 living organisms (fungi and bacteria) are not disturbed! 🌱 The dried upper portion of the plant will become a perfect mulch that you can plant directly into without need for straw or additional mulch. 👣 To terminate: grab a T-post and strap it to your feet with the ridge pointed downward. 🚶 Walk slowly in pairs across your cover crop rows, bending the plants over and crimping their stems as you go. ☀️Cover the terminated crop with a permeable landscaping fabric to suppress any potential regrowth from the roots. Leave it covered for about a month before planting in the bed. #notill #garden #gardener #regenerative #organic #buildsoil #covercrops #terminate #permaculture #gardening We draw students from all walks of life for a variety of workshops in DIY and sustainable living skill-building courses-- if they have one thing in common it's that they are authentic sweet people who are into learning and growing building skills they can utilize to enhance their lives!
