He made a statement during a visit to Suffolk to confirm the sign-off for the nuclear power station. He also cast doubt over the prospects for fracking as the solution to the UK's energy challenges, arguing that offshore wind was the cheapest form of electricity in the UK, taking a swipe at foreign secretary Liz Truss's plans to increase fracking in areas of the country where it has local support. 'I would much rather that we focused on the things where we are brilliant, and where the environmental damage is really minimal' said the outgoing prime minister. The government said it predicted that the UK would enjoy a future involving 'cheap, clean, reliable and plentiful' energy.
